Scoring with Betting Sticks or Chips

All hands in the book have either Limit, Half Limit, Middle Limit or Double Limit on the top right corner above the hand diagram. Calculate your scores accordingly.

How to Calculate the Score:

Mahjong	Fishing
Half Limit = 500	Fishing = 200
Limit = 1000	Fishing = 400
Middle Limit = 1500	Fishing = 600
Double Limit = 2000	Fishing = 800

2 RED DOTS denote that YOU WILL GET THE FULL SCORE even if the Pungs are EXPOSED

1 RED DOT denotes that THE SCORE IS HALVED if the PUNGS ARE EXPOSED 

Using the Scoring Sticks/Chips

DON'T FORGET THAT EAST PAYS OUT DOUBLE IF SHE DOESN'T MAHJONG AND EARNS DOUBLE IF SHE MAHJONGS. EAST ALSO GETS DOUBLE FOR FISHING AND PAYS OUT DOUBLE FOR ANYONE ELSE FISHING.

Everyone is given 25000 (10,000 x 1, 5000 x 2, 1000 x 4, 100 x 10). Calculate the score after

each game and first pay the person who has mahjonged.

WINNING: eg. if North mahjonged with Three Philosophers (Limit hand), South and West will pay her the stick with 1 red dot (1000 points) and East pays her 2 sticks with 1 red dot (2000 points). North is out of any Fishing calculations.

FISHING: Now calculate the scores for any Fishing hands:

If East was Fishing with Bombshell (400) and South was Fishing with Potpourri (200). South will give East 4 sticks with eight black dots (400 points).

West didn't get to the Fishing stage so will pay East 800 (Fishing with a Limit hand) and South 200 (Fishing with a Half Limit hand). DON'T FORGET EAST GETS DOUBLE FOR FISHING TOO.

The winner is North with +4000 points, South is -1200 (-1000-400+200), East is -800 (-2000 + 400 + 800) and West is -2000 (-1000 + -800 + -200).

The scoring chips are used in the same way. Some sets come with sticks and some with chips. You can also buy them separately from any mahjong supplier.

The strategy when you are scoring is to try and Fish to lessen your losses.
